The possession VFX in Oxenfree II: Lost Signals utilizes an "analog horror" aesthetic to signal supernatural interference. Rather than traditional ghostly mist, the focus was on signal degradation as a metaphor for possession. The following are some key elements -
1. Chromatic Aberration & Ghosting: Possessed characters appear with "echoes" of themselves, using misaligned color channels to create a vibrating, unstable silhouette.
2. VHS Glitch & Frame Stutter: The animation adopts intentional "hitches" and horizontal screen tearing, mimicking a corrupted video feed or a failing broadcast.
3. Geometric Distortion: Sharp, glowing red polygons (primarily triangles) manifest around the character, representing the "Sunken" entities’ mathematical, non-human nature.
4. Environmental Bleed: Possession often triggers high-contrast screen flickering and "white noise" overlays, desaturating the world to center focus on the distorted character.
